Here’s the latest from Burton on Trent...Could the State of my Fringe be Akin to the State of my Life ..?May 13, 2012 So May is here … and along with new growth in my gorgeous Spring garden, I’ve decided to grow my hair AND to grow out the fringe that I’ve had since I was 16 too ... The thing is I’m currently in that yucky mid phase where it’s starting to grow into my eyes and I’m blinded and bumping into solid objects! Yup – it’s too short to be neat and too long to be fringe … Hum … life gets like this sometimes too, when we are on the way to a new destination - we’re leaving the old behind, heading for the new and it can all seem a bit uncertain, muddy and messy. This is so often the time when we question our decisions, especially as you can’t always see clearly what the end result will be … Click here to read the full post>> Go from Clogged to Creative: Happy April!April 16, 2012 Wow, what a month it's been for me! As we battle the January Sales, and finish off the last of the Christmas cake, I’ve been reflecting on 2011 and gearing up for 2012. I love telling people that I lead a woman’s group called Damsels in Success, because more often than not, the first reaction will be … ‘what a great name’! Click here to read the full post>> Here's to a Delightful Damsel's Christmas!November 29, 2011 So the calendar changed to 1 November and suddenly the retail world was getting ready for Christmas – mince pies and Christmas trees in the shops, Yule tide adverts on the telly and ho ho ho – into Christmas we will go! People are counting down the days, stashing away their early present shopping and the sense of anticipation starts to build. Well at our next Damsels in Success event - on 16 November, we are all about creating our OWN sparkle! Click here to read the full post>> How to Harvest Your DreamsOctober 06, 2011 So how about the Indian Summer that saw in the beginning of the month – you could even call it a heat wave – I can’t remember an October like it!! Well in October it’s more traditional to think about the harvest rather than the holiday – yet harvest-time it IS: time to reap the crops of our spring and summer labours. Time to bring home our plots, plans and passions, yes, it’s time to ‘reap what you sow’ and so this month at Damsels in Success we will share with you how to Harvest Your Dreams … Click here to read the full post>> Damsels Go 'Back to School'August 31, 2011 OK, there’s no denying it – the nights are drawing in and people have started to talk about the ‘C’ word ... yes the autumn season is fast approaching and then it’s the wind down to Christmas ... (ouch! - there - I actually said it!!). It’s a funny old time of year – many of us have come back from holidays and have plans for the remaining months of the year; then there are those going back to school/college/uni/work - buying pencil cases and uniforms to last through from autumn to winter. There is strangely, both a sense of new beginnings and also of tailing down to the end of the year. It’s a unique time – time to reflect, celebrate and formulate and also time to energise, to act and to start afresh. Click here to read the full post>> Damsels in a TribeJuly 31, 2011 It's official - I'm a 'heretic' ... There have been so many times in my life when I felt I was swimming against the tide, was misunderstood and so alone, so as a life/business coach and a leader of a Damsels in Success group, I passionately believe in the power of community – of finding people who ‘get’ me – of spending time with like minded souls - who will share with me – who will support and guide me – people who hold similar values – who will encourage me – teach me – let me blow off steam - stretch my boundaries – broaden my horizons ... And that is most definitely the space I create for my own Damsels in Success Group and in my (Six Steps to Success and Summer Programme) Mentoring Groups. Click here to read the full post>> Picture This ...July 21, 2011 Written on the train on my way home from London – Tuesday 19 July: I’m reflecting on my day ... And this wasn't any old day ... No - it's not every day that I stand, barefoot, on a wet park bench in Regents Park, performing to camera (and loving every minute of it I might add ...). Click here to read the full post>> Rest, Recharge and Refresh, with Damsels in SuccessJuly 12, 2011 This month Damsels in Success is all about resting and recharging. And that is not just about having a lie-in here or a visit to the spa - we all relax and recharge in our own unique ways and what works for one can often have totally the opposite effect on another … take me for instance, a guaranteed recharger is to put my favourite Karaoke game on the WII and sing my little heart out … I have a particular penchant for Broadway classics at the moment and I appreciate that this may not be YOUR cup of tea, yet what ever your thing is, I would love to share another tip that works wonders for me when it comes to recharging. Take today for example … I have been on the go all day … I was up early and after a long drive, gave a breakfast talk at a networking event, then on the way home I went food shopping, then got home and reorganized and tidied up the whole of the downstairs of my house, which has just been redecorated, then had a quick nap (very important!) made lunch, and set to answering emails. Now that‘s a lot to pack into a morning, yet work is my passion, I love shopping (food or shoes, I am not particular ;)) and now I have the satisfaction of an organised and tidy house (for now at least!). Click here to read the full post>> See the Sights with Damsels in Success!June 19, 2011 One of the fab things about Damsels in Success having groups up and down the UK is that you can go to any one of our events, any where there is a group and it doesn’t cost a penny extra. Having this flexibility means that if we miss an event at our local group or just happen to be visiting where another group is meeting, then we can still get our monthly dose of love, laughter and learning. Taking full advantage of this yesterday, I went to Stourbridge to join the event there with our lovely leader Marie Catch and gorgeous guest speaker Sarupa Shah. If you’ve never been - the Stourbridge group meets at the Red Cone Glass House, an old glass works, complete with trinket and tea shop. So not only do I get my dose of Damsels, but also can pursue 2 of my favourite hobbies i.e. shopping and eating to boot! Not only that, but the Merry Hill Shopping Centre is near by, so on the way home I stopped off for some retail therapy there too! Whether we like it our not, money plays a critical part in the lifestyle we have (or feel we want) and so often is the source of much of our stress and worry. Not only all this fabulousness - but it's also my birthday on the 22nd, so we will be well and truly celebrating in Damsels style! As the first, fab long bank holiday of the year appeared on my horizon, I was delighted with all the possibilities it offered ... To start with my mother told me she wanted to go out for lunch on Easter Sunday. Fantastic - love that idea ... then I start to think ... Now it's not just my mum, there is her wheel chair, there is collecting her, there is finding some where to go that suits her needs, then there is the rest of our extended family ... can they all fit in and join in ..? Click here to read the full post>> The Roles Women PlayMarch 02, 2011 OK, so which of these are you today…?
And you just go on adding to the list can’t you …? I know I tick a lot of the above as roles that I play in life. I can be one or several of these things (after all we women can multi-task …) at any given time. And I choose the word ‘roles’ deliberately, I guess partly because one of my favourite hobbies is amateur dramatics. Yes I can certainly ‘act out’. Some days I do some better than others, other days it can feel like I’m pushing water up hill and not doing any one any favours – least of all MYSELF. Click here to read the full post>> Are You First or Last?February 06, 2011 February is coming and going in a blaze of wind, rain and routine … Isn’t it easy to lose track of time and slip back into the routine of getting up, going to work, sorting out the family, getting home, being a domestic goddess and then doing it all again the next day? And in amongst all this are you making sure that you are giving yourself time to actually ENJOY life? Or could it be that are you starting to feel tired and a little jaded because you are trying to do it all and some how feeling that you are really getting any where fast? If you are going to give your best to your family, work, etc, it’s vital that you are happy in your OWN life as well. In the best possible way, put yourself first for a while and give yourself the gift of one or two nights a week when you promise yourself that you will not give your time up to everyone and everything else and that you will go to the gym, catch a movie or read a book. And most vitally, once a month make space in your diary for ‘Damsels in Success’ and get your fabulous fix of love, laughter and learning … Click here to read the full post>> Be a Raw Bombshell!February 01, 2011 So January has come and gone and now February reaches ahead of you as the perfect opportunity to take time to discover more about yourself inside and out … Maybe Christmas has faded away leaving you with a body that you are less than happy with and that means that now is the perfect time to reassess and decide just what it is that you want out of your body and your overall health this year. Click here to read the full post>> Are Your New Year’s Resolutions Already a Thing of the Past?January 12, 2011 We are now properly into January. Christmas was less than 2 weeks ago and yet already it seems like a dream. The decorations and the tree are packed up and back in their usual space in the attic. We are back into the swing of things, back into routines, work, school run, conversations, favourite TV programmes – life has slipped back on, as it did before, like a comfortable old glove. I know that for many years I made resolutions for the 12 months ahead and I kept following the time honoured cliché of trying them on for a bit, making a few half hearted changes and then breaking them or more usually forgetting them. The other habit I had on New Years eve was wondering where I would be in 12 months, who would be in the room with me, what will have changed and ironically I would have those same thoughts again and again … Click here to read the full post>> Here's to 2011January 04, 2011 Happy New Year! So, we are well and truly into 2011 – I can’t believe it’s the 4th already and so that means there are only 15 days to the launch of Damsels in Success newest group, coming to the Royal Hotel – Ashby de la Zouche! 2010 was an amazing year for me … so much changed – in fact it’s easier to tell you that the ONLY thing that has stayed the same is that I still have 2 cats (called George and Taz if you are interested ;-). Before then I was doing the oh so feminine juggling act of family, work, housekeeping, gardening, being a social secretary & so much more besides. I ran around like a headless chicken, knowing that I had great friends, a busy social life & a successful career. Yet … despite all this, so much of the time, I felt tired, ill, lonely, unhappy & unfulfilled … Click here to read the full post>> |
